As a result of requests from friends, associates, previous corporate clients, and referrals, Eric decided to offer life coaching.
What is the difference between executive coaching and life coaching? Firstly, the former is usually initiated and paid by a corporate client who has one or several senior executives to be coached, and the coaching brief could be general in nature or specific. Life coaching, on the other hand, is solely initiated and determined by the individual, who pays for the services of the coach.
Secondly, in life coaching, the focus is on whatever the coachee believes is important and needs to be addressed, usually on an urgent or pressing basis. It could be in any area of life, from very personal areas to specific career or job issues, or a combination. It often includes work aspects as perceived through the lens of the coachee.
The similarity is that the starting point is the same - coachees complete the individual information questionnaire which covers 8 areas of life, including world view, values, and vision. Other areas of similarity include indicating the relative weightage of the various facets of life, coachability, the importance of listening, the way we ask questions, and the top 20 No-no’s in behaviors and attitudes.
Another similarity is that coachees complete an assessment which helps the person understand how their brains prefer to think. There are no right or wrong answers, and has been found to be 80 to 100 % accurate from all respondents.
The final similarity is that whatever is discussed between coach and coachee remains strictly between the two persons. In short, strict confidentiality is observed and nothing can be divulged to a third party unless explicit permission has been given.
At the start of the life coaching sessions, the objectives and expectations are clearly expressed and understood by both coachee and coach. For life coaching to be effective, there is a minimum number of 6 coaching sessions, each of one-hour in duration, once weekly or once in 2 weeks. Thereafter, the sessions can be spread out to once a month, or for any other interval. Long-term coaching on a retainer basis can be arranged.
Life coaching sessions are preferred, but where coachees are located outside of Singapore, or in the event of restriction of movements in future, Zoom meetings can be pre-arranged.
