New North Coaching is about individuals who are considering retirement from their current organizations, moving into other positions within their organization, or moving into entirely new professions or industries.
In reality, many individuals do not spend sufficient time - or hardly any time - reflecting on such issues. The result is that many are unprepared or even shocked when they are informed that they are being retired, or that their positions will no longer exist due to re-structuring, mergers, acquisitions, or other reasons.
Without adequate preparation for such eventualities, many staff may feel under-appreciated, disappointed, despondent or even suffer from depression. For many, their positions in their organizations have become their identity, and suffering from identity crises is not uncommon.
New North Coaching is pro-active. It helps both individuals and organizations plan ahead in anticipation of future staff requirements, re-deploying staff to other areas of work more suitable for them for whatever reasons, and should be part and parcel of succession planning.
When valued staff, especially at the senior level, are provided with professional coaching in preparation for the last phase of their careers or working lives, they are very likely to appreciate New North Coaching. At this phase of their lives, they want minimum hassles, and maximum fulfillment. Such coaching would be helpful and useful. They will learn to explore new interests, possibilities and avenues.
From the organization’s perspective, such a practice would also be viewed positively by the staff concerned, as well as their family, friends as well as colleagues still in the organization. It should be viewed as an empathetic benefit for staff and could be integrated into the final package.
